The founder of what is now known as CHK Charities Ltd, Sir Cyril Kleinwort, was a partner in the old established banking house of Kleinwort, Sons & Co, which merged in 1960 with Robert Benson, Lonsdale Ltd to form the Kleinwort Benson Group. He was chairman from 1966 to 1974 and died in 1980.
When the bank was bought by the Dresdner Bank in 1995, Sir Cyril’s heirs decided to increase substantially the funds available to the trustees of his Charitable Trust, at the same time changing its name to CHK Charities Ltd.
